Service Description

This class is open to students in Years 5 & 6 from PLC in Term 2. Please contact the PLC Lighthouse to enrol. Beginners are welcome, and intermediate-level students will be extended through challenging topics, fine-tuning their skills and taking on leadership roles within their group. Classes take place from 3.45 - 5.00 pm on Thursdays at the PLC Lighthouse. Students will be given afternoon tea and a supervised break before debating class. Dates for Term 2 are: Thurs May 5, 12, 19, 26, June 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30, plus an end-of-term Debate Night on Thursday 23rd June, 5.30pm - 7.00pm. In this interactive and hands-on class, students will work in teams to create a thought-provoking debate to present at an end-of-term in-house debate event. Debating skills are valuable for students in further studies and work. Skills such as public speaking, logical thinking, research, structuring an argument, teamwork, leadership, confidence and many more all contribute to a student's success in school and life. This class is not just useful, but also highly enjoyable, with games and skill-building activities throughout. Furthermore, it allows students to have a say on things that matter to them and share their thoughts with a wider audience.
